When comparing professional training courses, check nine facts: delivery format, exam inclusion, exam attempts, access period, learner support, expected workload, credential outcome, taxes and scheduling.

Verify each fact on the current course page and in the provider’s applicable terms before paying. A missing fact should prompt a question; it should not be filled with an assumption.

Start with the outcome you need

Decide whether you need introductory knowledge, implementation capability, audit capability or a specialist skill. A course with a familiar standard in its title may still lead to a different assessment or credential pathway.

Course attendance, passing an exam and qualifying for a professional credential are separate milestones. Check whether experience, project hours, references, continuing education or maintenance fees apply after the exam.

Compare format, workload and scheduling

Self-study, guided eLearning and instructor-led classes are different products even when they cover the same subject. Compare how the material is delivered, whether a confirmed class date exists, the timezone, attendance expectations and how long access remains available.

Expected workload is not the same as video runtime, exam duration, platform access or calendar completion time. Treat a workload range as an estimate and allow for your prior knowledge, reading speed and practice time.

Confirm exams, attempts, access and support

Check whether the advertised amount includes the official exam, how many initial attempts are included, whether a resit is available, the deadline for using each entitlement and how the exam is scheduled.

Learner support can mean technical access help, administrative help, instructor access, marking or live teaching. Ask what is actually included and which organisation is responsible for each part.

Compare the total payable amount

Compare like with like: the same delivery format, exam entitlement, access period and support. A lower headline amount is not a useful comparison when the inclusions or delivery model differ.
