AI governance and responsible-AI leads
Connect policies, ownership and human oversight across the AI lifecycle.
Artificial Intelligence · PECB
Understand how European AI requirements translate into responsibilities, controls and evidence. This course examines AI governance across the lifecycle, from determining applicability and organisational roles to managing risks, transparency and ongoing oversight.
Study online in English with official PECB slide-based Self-Study materials, practical examples, exercises and quizzes. Work through the content independently, at a pace that suits your existing experience.
Choose this pathway when your main responsibility is deciding how AI should be governed, who is accountable and what evidence the organisation needs. It is particularly relevant to:
Connect policies, ownership and human oversight across the AI lifecycle.
Assess AI uses, organise risk decisions and translate regulatory requirements into internal controls and evidence.
Connect AI use with data responsibilities, transparency and oversight.
Build an operational understanding of AI roles, risk classification and governance arrangements when advising a business.
Assess supplier information and organise governance responsibilities when selecting or introducing AI systems.
Basic familiarity with AI or digital technology is expected. Experience using AI can help, but is not a prerequisite. A working understanding of business processes and compliance concepts will make the material easier to apply.
If your priority is defending models, applications and infrastructure against technical attacks, compare CAISP instead. These role examples describe relevant work responsibilities; they do not establish eligibility for the full professional credential or confer legal-practice authority.
Your course package includes official PECB materials, the initial examination attempt and the certification application fee. An eligible examination retake and the first year's annual maintenance fee are included under PECB's conditions.
This is independent study using slides and supporting materials. Recorded video lessons, live teaching and Aegentra Labs access are not included.
PECB states that the Self-Study examination/certification cycle runs for 12 months from purchase. A failed attempt does not start another 12 months. Material-access duration and examination deadlines are separate; confirm the material-access entitlement before enrolling and check current PECB booking and retake conditions.
Identify the AI system, intended use and relevant responsibilities across the value chain.
Distinguish risk categories and examine general-purpose AI and systemic-risk considerations.
Connect policies, ownership, escalation, resources and improvement planning.
Consider data governance, robustness, cybersecurity, human oversight, transparency and AI literacy.
Organise documentation and monitoring around the decisions the organisation needs to demonstrate.
PECB's published agenda groups learning into four teaching days followed by an examination day. The curriculum progresses through these stages:
For Self-Study, this describes the curriculum sequence—not a required five-day timetable or a promised completion time.
Illustrative example—not a client case study or promised course deliverable.
Your organisation is considering an AI tool for screening job applications. A useful governance discussion starts before anyone writes a policy: what does the tool do, who decides how it is used, what information supports the supplier's claims, and who can challenge an output? Then record the decisions, owners and questions requiring specialist advice. This illustrates the difference between recognising a regulatory term and organising a defensible decision process.
The course develops professional knowledge. It does not replace legal advice or establish that a particular system complies with every applicable law.
The examination covers regulatory foundations; applicability and roles; governance planning; risk, data and security; and documentation and transparency. Check PECB's current examination information for the exact question count, duration, pass mark and booking conditions before scheduling.
Passing the examination allows an application to PECB. The full credential requires five years of professional experience, including two in AI governance, plus the applicable ethics and application requirements. A provisional credential is available without professional experience, subject to PECB's requirements and approval. PECB—not Aegentra—makes the certification decision.
The published course package includes more than 400 pages of materials and a completion attestation carrying 31 CPD credits. CPD credits are not a stated Self-Study workload.

Focus on European AI regulatory governance, responsibilities and evidence.
Choose Foundation, Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor when your work concerns an AI management system.
Choose technical AI security when your priority is understanding attacks, defensive controls and secure operation.

Its focus is governance: responsibilities, risks, oversight and compliance evidence. It is not sold as a course for building a generative model or learning productivity prompts.
No. This is training toward an individual PECB credential. Buying or completing it does not certify an organisation, product or AI system.
The currently supplied format is English Self-Study using slides and supporting materials. Recorded eLearning, a live trainer and classroom delivery are not included.
Start with the work you need to perform. Regulatory-governance responsibilities and management-system implementation overlap, but neither course should be described as a substitute for the other.
