PECB offers two personal AI credentials in Australia: the Certified Artificial Intelligence Professional (CAIP, $1,239 + GST), the technical track, and the Certified Artificial Intelligence Manager (CAIM, $1,054 + GST), the leadership track. Both are 5-day-equivalent self-paced courses assessed by a 3-hour remotely proctored exam, with the exam voucher, one free resit, and 31 CPD credits included.
CAIP is the practitioner credential: machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, robotics, and AI security, with hands-on labs delivered in a browser-based virtual environment. It runs 40–50 hours self-paced and is assessed across seven competency domains. CAIM is the management credential: AI governance, data readiness, Power BI dashboards, and AI agents built in n8n — no coding required. The Australian Government published the Voluntary AI Safety Standard in 2024, with ten guardrails covering accountability, risk management, testing, transparency, and human oversight, and has consulted on mandatory guardrails for AI in high-risk settings. Boards are asking who owns AI risk, and AI clauses are appearing in Australian procurement. CAIP and CAIM are personal credentials — they complement, rather than replace, the certifiable ISO/IEC 42001 management-system pathway covered in our ISO 42001 certification guide.
Choose CAIP if you build or interrogate AI systems — data scientists, AI engineers, technical leads, consultants reviewing client AI programs, and risk officers who need genuine technical literacy. Choose CAIM if you govern and run the AI portfolio — AI project and product managers, transformation leaders, governance and compliance officers, and team leaders in health care, finance, manufacturing, and public services working with vendors. CAIP moves from AI foundations and data analysis through machine learning, then NLP and deep learning with transformers and large language models, then computer vision, robotics, AI security, ethics, and governance — closing with the exam on day five. CAIM covers AI strategy and opportunity management, then AI governance (fairness, bias, transparency, explainability, and a prompt engineering lab), then data-driven decision-making with a Power BI lab, then AI automation with an n8n lab — closing with the exam on day five.
Both exams are 3-hour PECB assessments with mixed multiple-choice and scenario-based questions, a 70% pass mark, and remote proctoring so you can sit them from anywhere in Australia. CAIP covers seven competency domains, from fundamental AI concepts through AI security and AI ethics, governance, and strategy. CAIM covers five domains, from AI foundations and governance through prompt engineering, Power BI, and generative AI and automation use cases. The exam voucher and one free resit within 12 months are included in each price.

Each is a single-tier credential with no project-hour requirement. CAIP requires passing the exam, two years of artificial intelligence experience, and signing the PECB Code of Ethics; CAIM requires passing the exam, two years of AI management experience, and signing the Code of Ethics.
