A practical guide to PECB Certified Linux Foundations (CLF) — the 5-day, hands-on certification that builds a working command of Linux administration and foundational security, and the entry step of a hands-on cybersecurity ladder in Australia.
PECB Certified Linux Foundations (CLF) is a 5-day, hands-on certification in Linux administration and security — the command line and file system, users and permissions, packages, processes, secure remote access over SSH, log management, and system hardening — costing $1,165 AUD through Aegentra, with no prerequisites.
CLF gives you the practical skills to administer and secure Linux systems through real command-line operations — user and permission management, package and process management, secure remote access over SSH, and log-based troubleshooting. It assumes no prior Linux knowledge and no security background, making it a strong grounding for anyone moving into IT, system administration, networking, or cybersecurity. See the full course details.
Linux is the foundation under most cloud, server, and security work. Cloud fleets, web servers, containers, and security tooling run on Linux, so a working command of the operating system is a prerequisite skill across IT and cybersecurity — and employers routinely screen for Linux administration in sysadmin, network engineering, DevOps, and SOC roles.
Four days of training cover Linux essentials and CLI fundamentals; system and user management including file permissions and shell scripting; process management, remote access and authentication; and system maintenance, log management, and security hardening. Day five is the certification exam. The 300+ pages of materials come with hands-on exercises and quizzes.
The CLF exam is a 3-hour, multiple-choice, remotely proctored exam with a 70% pass mark, covering five domains: user and access control; the Linux command line and file system; secure remote administration and SSH; system maintenance, package management and task scheduling; and security monitoring and log analysis. No professional or project experience is required.
Through Aegentra, an official PECB partner, the course is $1,165 AUD (GST added at checkout). It includes 300+ pages of official materials, hands-on exercises and quizzes, 12 months myPECB access, the official exam voucher, one free resit within 12 months, 31 CPD credits, and a PECB digital certificate on pass.
CLF is the first rung of a hands-on cybersecurity ladder and the entry step before advanced PECB security certifications. Once the fundamentals are second nature you can progress into ethical hacking, incident response, and threat-analysis pathways — all of which assume Linux fluency.
